Weichen Hung is a ceramicist based in Yingge, Taiwan — the historic home of peach porcelain. Working alone in a studio, he shapes each piece by hand, carrying forward a tradition that values silence over spectacle.
Shaped by hand, slowly since 2014.

Hello. My name is Weichen Hung, and I make porcelain in Yingge, which has been the center of Taiwan's peach porcelain industry since the Japanese colonial period. I'm glad you've found your way here. I didn't study ceramics formally. Most of what I know comes from years of working alone - making things, taking them apart, and trying again. This process is still the way I work today, the way I think I work today.
I work without molds or machinery. Each piece is hand-built, shaped through repeated contact with the clay until the form settles into something that feels honest. I don't rush that. Some pieces take much longer than expected, and some never get finished at all. I've made peace with that.
My work is almost entirely functional — bowls, cups, jars. Things meant to be held and used, not set aside. I believe an object earns its place through use, not appearance. If a piece sits untouched on a shelf, I'm not sure it's doing its job.
I think a lot about why certain forms have lasted for centuries. Not to copy them, but to understand what they got right — and whether that still matters now. Tradition, to me, is not something to preserve behind glass. It's a conversation worth continuing.
I don't make many pieces. I'd rather make fewer things well than many things quickly. Thank you for taking the time to look.
